Google Classroom Discussion Board Student Expectations

Google Classroom Discussion Board Instructions & Student Expectations

Teachers in my school district are being required to host daily "office hours", but our district has not mandated how teachers should conduct these hours.

So, our EdTech team put together a Google Slides self-paced virtual training for the teachers in our district suggesting a variety of methods for conducting office hours with students.

ONE of the methods we suggested was to use Google Classroom to host a live discussion board with students.

You can do this by following these steps:

1.  Set up a "Discussion Board" topic under the Classwork tab.  Pro tip:  Use emojis to make your topics more visual!

2.  Create and post/schedule questions to ask students. Make sure to check the box that allows students to reply to each other.  And also be sure to communicate a day/time when students should be in their Google Classroom to participate in the live chat.

3.  Provide clear instructions for your participation instructions & expectations.  You can attach this slide to your post and ask students to read it before submitting an "answer" to your question.  If you want to edit this slide, make your own copy and revise how you see fit OR be creative and make your own!
